We're a credit union, not a bank.
Credit Unions are not for profit financial cooperatives built to improve the financial lives of the members they serve. Unlike banks, we have no outside stockholders, so we operate solely for the benefit of our members. Because of this structure and focus, we typically charge fewer fees than banks, in addition to having competitive rates. A recent independent study revealed we save members an average of $353 per year as compared to banks in our markets.
If you live, work, or even have a relative in one of our 40 southern Indiana and northern Kentucky membership counties, you can be a member, too! Your $5 savings deposit gives you full membership benefits and makes you an owner with a stake in Hoosier Hills Credit Union.
Hoosier Hills Credit Union grew from the break room of the GM Central Foundry in Bedford, Indiana. It was formally organized as Bedford Independent Federal Credit Union in 1969. Fifty years from its humble beginnings, Hoosier Hills Credit Union has grown to more than $600,000,000 in assets, serving 30,000 members with the same mission–the financial wellness of its members.
In 2019, President/CEO George McNichols, now retired, chronicled the Credit Union’s first 50 years as part of HHCU’s anniversary celebration.
